| May is National
Historic Preservation Month and the ideal time to spotlight some of the
outstanding preservation efforts made in our community.
Nominations for the 2009 awards are being accepted through May 1. A nomination form is available here or by calling 816.439.4537. Nominations will be accepted for the following categories: Preservation Project of the Year for a major restoration, rehabilitation, or adaptive re-use of a structure or site completed within the last two calendar years Outstanding Preservationist for an architect, designer, contractor, builder, or craftsperson for outstanding efforts to preserve an existing structure or enhance the character of a neighborhood through compatible new construction Excellence in Preservation Advocacy for an individual or organization whose efforts have made a significant positive impact upon local history, heritage education, heritage tourism, architectural history, preservation education, or public policy. Stewardship Award for an individual or organization that has provided continued respectful care of a historically significant property for a minimum of two years. Historic Home Award for the owner of a single-family residence that has provided continued respectful care of the residence for a minimum of two years. Two awards will be given in this category: one for a home of 1,200 square feet or less, and one for a home larger than 1,200 square feet. The awards will be presented at the Voices of Liberty program at the Corbin Theatre on May 15. Voices of Liberty features local Civil War experts. The theme of this year's program is "Liberty During the Civil War." Tickets for Voices are available for $10 at By the Book.
